Wilmots full of confidence

Belgium boss Marc Wilmots insists his side will punish any team that tries to attack them in the European Championships following their 1-0 win over Sweden on Wednesday.

Wilmots’ men finished level on points with Italy in Group E after Radja Nainggolan’s stunning drive in the 84th minute, while Robbie Brady’s header ensured Ireland picked up a 1-0 win over the Azzurri.

After losing their first game 2-0 to Italy, Belgium have responded well, and their 3-0 win over Ireland also helped them qualify for the knock-out stage.

Their reward is a clash against Hungary on Sunday and Wilmots is adamant that the opposition will be punished if they attack his side. “They were obliged to open up and if you do that against us you will be punished,” he said.

“Six points from nine is very good and since the defeat by Italy we have got better, we’ve kept two clean sheets in a row. “People thought we were dead after the first game but we are back on track and we have come through a very difficult group.”

Despite Wilmots’ bold claims, Belgium captain Eden Hazard was a little more cautious after Hungary topped Group F following their 3-3 draw with Portugal. He said: “Hungary will be tough. We saw the last minutes of their game against Portugal. “They give 200 per cent and have very good players. We need another good performance to qualify for the quarter-finals.”

Belgium go into Sunday’s game as the 1.62 favourites, with the draw priced at 3.40 and Hungary available at odds of 6.50 with Dafabet.
