Williams wants professional Wales

Swansea captain Ashley Williams has called on the Wales squad to keep their emotions in check and stay as professional as possible as they look to try and cause an upset at Euro 2016.

Wales, who are priced at 5.50 to win Group B, were in fantastic form throughout qualifying to book their place at a major tournament for the first time in 58 years.

Chris Coleman guided his men to a second-place finish in their group, having lost just once, and there is hope of extending their good performances through into the summer showpiece.

Williams and his team-mates are set to face Slovakia, England and Russia in Group B and the skipper insists it will be hard to enjoy. The 31-year-old believes it is important to block out all the hype and try to fully focus on the tough task that lies ahead.

The Swansea man insists he is trying not to get to caught up in the emotion of captaining his nation and admitted he will not be able to appreciate everything until the tournament is over.

“I’ve thought about (leading Wales out in the opening game) but, to be honest, I try not to get too caught up in any of that,” he said. “It is going to happen but that is why we are the professionals, we have to get the job done.

“There is no point being too emotional either way because then you can’t perform to your best. “I think the whole Euros will be something you can’t really enjoy as players until after the occasion, because we have a job to do. “It’s probably when you look back you will think that is brilliant, however it goes.”
