Wales spirit key for Hal
10/05/2016Hal Robson-Kanu believes the special atmosphere within the Wales squad can help them impress at Euro 2016.
The Dragons are set to feature in their first major tournament since the 1958 World Cup in France, having come through a difficult qualifying group that included Belgium and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Wales have been drawn to play neighbours England in the summer, with Russia and Slovakia making up Group B. Unlike their English counterparts and a number of other teams at the finals, the Welsh squad does not have as many players who are rivals at club level.
This has helped manager Chris Coleman build a feeling of togetherness within the camp that is unlikely to be disrupted by domestic feuds.
Robson-Kanu feels the camaraderie in the squad has been a huge part of their success to date and believes it will serve them well this summer in France.
“It’s a club atmosphere with us,” he said. “We do have that bond. It’s very unusual in international football. But we’ve all played together for years and we get on so well. “With other teams, they’re full of players who have quite an intense club rivalry all season and then have to get together and be team-mates.
That’s not always easy. “We don’t have that. We’re like a family and that will help us this summer.” Wales are currently 5.50 to top Group B, with England the 1.80 favourites ahead of Russia who are priced at 4.00.
The Welsh open their campaign against the Slovakians in Bordeaux on June 11, a game they are 2.60 to win, with the draw 3.00 and Jan Kozak’s men re priced at 2.88.
