Vardy tipped to ruffle feathers in France

After Leicester City were confirmed as Premier League champions this week, Foxes frontman Jamie Vardy is being tipped to extend his dream season into the European Championship Finals with England.

Vardy looks to have done enough to seal a place in Roy Hodgson’s Euro 2016 squad and former Leicester, Arsenal and England striker Alan Smith is tipping the striker to make an impact in France.

Smith, now a television pundit, says much will depend on how much use Hodgson elects to make of Vardy during the tournament. “He is 29 and he has not got too many years at the top for a player who uses his pace and physical abilities,” he said.

“But for the next two or three years, he is going to be a major force in the Premier League and hopefully for England at the Euros.” England have been drawn to face Russia, Wales and Slovakia in France next month and Smith believes Vardy is capable of being a genuine asset to the Three Lions.

Vardy’s tough journey to top in club football will stand him in good stead says Smith, who feels Vardy’s determination to grab his international opportunity in the autumn of his career will be a positive for England.

“He is definitely going to go – it is about how Roy Hodgson chooses to use him. He can ruffle quite a few feathers in France I think. “He has got that hunger.

We all know where he came from – non-league football – there is an element of making the very most of his time in the spotlight,” he added.

England are 9.00 to win Euro 2016, while Vardy is 4.33 to be leading goalscorer for his country at the tournament.
