Shearer impressed by Tottenham trio

Former England captain Alan Shearer believes Tottenham stars Eric Dier, Harry Kane and Dele Alli can inspire the Three Lions at Euro 2016.

The trio are currently key figures in Spurs’ push for the Premier League title and were again on form in Sunday’s 3-0 win over Bournemouth.

With Euro 2016 on the horizon, all three appear shoo-ins for Roy Hodgson’s squad, with Dier impressing since being switched to a holding midfield role at the start of the season, while Alli and Kane have shone with their creativity and form in front of goal.

England are currently priced at 11.00 to win Euro 2016, while they are the 1.80 favourites to top Group B which also includes Wales, Russia and Slovakia.

A number of their colleagues will be looking to prove they deserve a place in Hodgson’s travelling party during the upcoming friendlies against Germany and Holland, but Shearer believes the Tottenham trio should be three of the first names on the team sheet in the summer.

The former striker, who played in three European Championships, admits he has been encouraged by the understanding Dier, Alli and Kane have struck up and says they should be automatic starters in France.

“They’ve got such a good understanding. It seems to me that they know each other’s game on the pitch but they’re mates off the pitch also,” Shearer said on Match of the Day. “It’s looking really good for England with those guys coming through.

“The full backs are up for discussion because there are options in those positions, particularly at left back, but there’s no doubt I’d start with Dier just in front and Dele Alli sitting behind Harry Kane. Harry Kane is on fire this season. He should be an automatic in that England team now.”
