Rossi ready for Italy recall

Giuseppe Rossi feels he is rediscovering his form at Levante and is ready should Italy coach Antonio Conte include him in his squad for Euro 2016.

The forward has not represented the Azzurri since before the 2014 World Cup due to a number of injury problems, and he was also unable to re-establish himself in Fiorentina’s starting line-up at the start of the season.

The 29-year-old joined Levante on-loan in January and he has quickly rediscovered his form in Spain, scoring five goals and contributing two assists to aid Les Granotes’ survival hopes.

The former Manchester United striker is now hoping that his return to form can boost his chances of earning a recall to the national side ahead of this summer’s European Championships.

He said: “I do feel good and am getting back to a high level, so if the call were to come, I’d be ready if needed. I don’t need to send messages to Conte, as what really counts is what I do on the pitch.”

Rossi, who has scored seven goals in 30 appearances for the Azzurri to date, is adamant he is completely over his injury problems and he is delighted to be playing regular football once again.

He added: “Now I work calmly, doing what I need to do. My knee is in perfect condition, I feel really good and don’t even think about the injuries anymore. I don’t want to think about bad luck either, because last year I was in bed with my leg raised, so I am happy to be where I am now.”

Should Rossi earn a place in Italy’s final 23-man squad for the Euros, then he will be hoping to feature in their Group E encounters with Belgium, Sweden and the Republic of Ireland.

Conte’s men are available at 2.60 to finish top of their group, while they are priced at 1.15 to qualify for the knockout stages.
