Lloris confident on home soil

Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris insists France can go all the way and win Euro 2016 following their 2-0 win over Albania.

Didier Deschamps’ side, 4.33 to win the tournament, picked up a 2-1 win in their first game and following it up with another victory.

However, France were unable to find a way through until late on against the Albanians, with Antoine Griezmann and Dimitri Payet scoring in injury time to put their side through to the knockout stages.

Although they have yet to find their top form, France became the first team to qualify for the next round on Wednesday night and Lloris insists they can go all the way.

He said: “We have to believe until the end. Play with the heart, head, legs, and I want to emphasise that the public has played its role. “It is a great pleasure to be on the field and feel all this enthusiasm that prompted us to go for the win.”

Deschamps’ men have come in for criticism for their lack of attacking intent and Lloris admits they need to start games quicker. “The feeling was different compared to the opening match. We need to be more aggressive, to put more intensity, otherwise we’ll take too many risks in the future,” he added.

“We were present from beginning to end. We had the generosity and heart. But with the ball, it’s true that it was not enough in the first half. We must have confidence in this competition. Take one game after another.”
