Klopp refusing to rule out Henderson
11/04/2016Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has admitted that Jordan Henderson’s injury is a serious one but still claims that he could yet feature at this summer’s European Championships.
The Liverpool captain started Thursday’s Europa League clash against Borussia Dortmund in Germany but was forced off with a knee injury.
Scans have since shown damage to his lateral collateral ligament and original reports suggest he could miss eight weeks of the campaign.
That would mean Henderson would struggle to play again this season, casting doubt on his Euro 2016 chances under boss Roy Hodgson.
Hodgson has said all year that players need to be at 100 percent before he selects them but Klopp has moved quickly to reassure the Reds fans.
Klopp told Sky Sports: “It’s serious but it’s not that serious that there is not hope for us for maybe the last one or two games.
“It’s also clear there is still hope for the European Championships.
For us he is a very important player who has been getting better and better. But he’s an important player for England too, so there is no final judgement that there is no chance.
“There is a chance. It’s isolated, nothing else. It’s not good news but it’s part of something like good news. We will do everything to get him back in the race as soon as possible. Each day we will see what we can do.”
Henderson will be hoping to prove his fitness in time for the tournament as he tries to help the Three Lions lift the trophy.
Hodgson’s men are priced at 9.00 to win the event with Dafabet.
