Keogh hoping O’Neill continues to think outside the box
05/04/2016Andy Keogh believes Republic of Ireland boss Martin O’Neill’s willingness to think outside the box could see him feature at Euro 2016 this summer.
The former Leeds and Wolves striker is playing his club football in the Australian A-League with Perth Glory but he hopes his scoring streak is catching the eye of the Ireland boss.
Keogh netted for the eighth league game in a row as Perth overcame Melbourne City 3-2 at the weekend and he believes O’Neill will have noticed his recent form.
The 29-year-old has revealed he would relish an opportunity to show the Irish manager exactly what he can do, even in a training camp.
“I’m hoping Martin O’Neill has noticed. I love my country and feel I can contribute, especially as I’m in good form and scoring goals,” he said.
“Martin has shown a willingness to look outside the box with some players and I’d love to show what I could do in a training camp.”
Keogh has 30 caps for the Republic but has not featured in the national team set-up under O’Neill. He earned his most recent cap in 2013.
The Dublin-born forward is in his second spell with Perth Glory having spent last season playing in Thailand with Ratchaburi.
Ireland secured their place at Euro 2016 via a 3-1 aggregate success in their playoff against Bosnia & Herzegovina in November. They will face Sweden, Belgium and Italy at the European Championship in June.
Republic of Ireland are 2.88 to win their opening game against Sweden on June 11. The Swedes are 2.30 while the draw is 3.10.
