Kane excited by form of England strike force

Harry Kane says the form of both himself and Jamie Vardy is exciting for England going into Euro 2016.

The duo rattled up no less than 49 Premier League goals between them in the season just finished, Vardy helping Leicester to the title while Kane and Tottenham secured Champions League football for next season.

Both scored in Sunday’s friendly win over Turkey at the Etihad Stadium as Roy Hodgson’s squad began their countdown to next month’s European Championship finals in earnest.

Kane netted the opening goal and, while he would later miss from the penalty spot, Vardy’s goal ensured victory for the Three Lions.

Far from feeling pressured by the form of Vardy, Kane insists this is an exciting time for England with in-form strikers scoring goals leading into a major tournament. “When you have got a pair of strikers who have scored 25 and 24 Premier League goals, it shows that we have top strikers,” he said.

“We both scored again on Sunday and scoring is a good habit to have. We are up there, we are confident, we are both scoring goals and long may it continue.”

Kane is up for the challenge of securing a starting berth when England face Russia in their Group B opening on June 11. He knows however that competition will be fierce, even if skipper Wayne Rooney is played in a deeper role and he says Hodgson has some tough choices to make.

“Obviously Wayne has been doing great in that deeper position, but we’ve all got to fight for places. “There are a lot of good midfielders and a lot of good strikers so there are a lot of options in those positions so the manager will do what he wants to do.”

Kane is 3.50 to be England’s leading scorer at Euro 2016 while Vardy is 5.50 and Rooney is 5.50.
