Hodgson keeping calm ahead of busy summer
22/04/2016Roy Hodgson is confident England will maintain their current form at the European Championships but he has urged fans to not get too carried away.
The Three Lions, 9.00 to win Euro 2016, have impressed in recent months since they qualified for the tournament after topping their group.
Hodgson’s men have beaten France and Germany in recent months and the form of some of their players has already got the fans excited.
The likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Jamie Vardy have all impressed this season but England still need to come through Group B.
They will take on Wales, Slovakia and Russia in their group and some sections of the media have tipped them to reach the semi-finals this summer.
Speaking ahead of the tournament, Hodgson insists his team have the quality to go all the way but he has urged the fans to not get their hopes up just yet.
He said: “I would like to think going forward and preparing for this one, it has put us in a slightly better position. But everything really depends on the night.
“I don’t think that the team and the group of players we have got now will, in any way, let myself, the coaching staff or the country down. I fully believe they will go there and do their utmost to perform at the level we have seen them perform at and think they can perform at.
“But of course I don’t know about refereeing decisions, I don’t know if Dele Alli’s going to trip over and hit the post when he has just dribbled past four players. I don’t know those type of things.”
