Giroud determined to lead France line

France striker Olivier Giroud is adamant that he can lead his side to glory at this summer’s European Championship.

The Arsenal forward has dropped out of the first-team picture in recent weeks as the Gunners try to qualify for the Champions League once again.

Manager Arsene Wenger has decided to go with Alexis Sanchez, Danny Welbeck and Alex Iwobi in the club’s last few matches.

Despite dropping out of the starting XI, the former Montpellier forward believes he is the man to lead the line for Les Bleus this summer.

With Karim Benzema out of the picture, Giroud believes he can help his country win the tournament on home soil at odds of 4.00.

He told the London Evening Standard: “Of course there is added pressure, but it is also really exciting. Having the whole nation behind you is very motivating.

“I think you have to take every game as it comes and not make any assumptions as anything can happen on pitch. The groups are still competitive, and I believe that this is down to the quality of European football which is always developing.”

The 29-year-old will compete with the likes of Antoine Griezmann, Anthony Martial, Dimitri Payet and Kingsley Coman for a starting spot.

However, Giroud thinks he can link up well with Griezmann.

He added: “I hope that you will see a lot from us this summer. Griezmann is an amazing player as he has shown so many times this season for both Atletico and France. Antoine has so much to bring to the team, and I’m looking forward to playing alongside him.”
