England need Kane – Sheringham

Former England forward Teddy Sheringham believes the Three Lions need Tottenham’s Harry Kane if they are to go far at Euro 2016 and has tipped the striker to win the Golden Boot.

Kane has enjoyed a prolific couple of campaigns at club level and he topped the Premier League goalscoring charts this season as Spurs challenged for the title.

The 22-year-old is almost certain to start for England at Euro 2016 having bagged 25 times for Tottenham in 2015-16, while he has netted five goals in 11 international appearances.

Sheringham, who earned 51 caps and enjoyed two spells with Spurs, insists that Kane is crucial to Roy Hodgson and England’s chances of winning this summer’s tournament.

The former Manchester United man believes the striker is capable of winning the Golden Boot and believes he can offer more than Leicester striker Jamie Vardy, who many believe deserves the chance to start.

Sheringham said: “Can Kane challenge for the Golden Boot at Euro 2016? Yeah, of course he can. If he hits a run of form like he did in the league then absolutely. “If he scores a couple of goals in the group stage and England get a nice draw in the Round of 16 then he’ll be bang in the mix.

“If you assess everything that Kane and Vardy can both do – they can both run the channels, they can both score from long distance, and they both get goals with their right foot. “However Kane is better on his left foot, Kane is better in the air, and Kane is better at receiving the ball.”

England are priced at 9.50 to win Euro 2016, while Harry Kane can be backed at 17.00 to finish the tournament as the top scorer.
