Ekdal worried by Italy’s threat
16/06/2016Midfielder Albin Ekdal has admitted Sweden are worried about facing Italy at Euro 2016 on Friday.
The two nations will do battle in Group E with the Azzurri hoping to earn a victory as they try to confirm their place in the next round of the tournament.
Sweden were held to a 1-1 draw by the Republic of Ireland in their first match while Italy cruised past Belgium with a 2-0 win.
Antonio Conte’s men were expected to struggle this summer but their first performance has got Ekdal and his team-mates panicking.
The Hamburg midfielder told reporters: “Italy are stronger than we expected. “First we thought Belgium were the best side in the group, but now I have changed my mind. Italy put in a great performance in Lyon.
They seemed very concentrated and disciplined, above all in defence. I am worried, as a very difficult match awaits us. “We need a completely different Sweden to the one seen against Ireland if we are to get a result on Friday.”
Italy have been boosted by the news striker Graziano Pelle will be fit to play. The Southampton star dislocated his finger and picked up a foot knock against Belgium but reports in Italy suggested he was back in training on Wednesday as he prepares to help his side pick up another three points.
The Azzurri are 1.91 favourites to win, with the draw 3.20, while Sweden are available at 4.75.
