Edwards still hoping for Euro chance

Wolves midfielder David Edwards is refusing to make any summer plans in case he is selected in Chris Coleman’s squad for the European Championship.

The midfielder has sat out Wales’ last few friendlies after suffering a broken metatarsal in January although he was back in club action earlier this month against MK Dons.

Edwards has returned earlier than planned, but he is still facing a tough battle to get into Coleman’s squad.

The 30-year-old has made 31 appearances for Wales since his debut in 2007, with competition for places hotting up as Euro 2016 approaches.

While his club have failed to string any results together in recent weeks, Edwards is determined to end the season on a high, as he tries to do enough to earn his place.

He told the Express and Star: “The wife and kids are having to wait on the holiday front. The passport is all there. It’s the first time in a while I hope I don’t get any holidays and I can spend some more time playing football.

“But since I’ve been back playing it’s just about me getting minutes under my belt, trying to score some goals and get in some good form.

“If I can do that in the remaining three games then hopefully I’ve done everything my end to deserve a space in the squad.”

Coleman’s men have been drawn against England, Slovakia and Russia and they are 1.67 to qualify for the knockout phase.
