Draxler major doubt for Euro 2016
18/04/2016Germany winger Julian Draxler is a major doubt for Euro 2016 after sustaining a thigh injury whilst playing for club-side Wolfsburg.
The 22-year-old picked up the problem during the first half of Die Wolfe’s 3-0 Champions League defeat to Real Madrid at the Bernabeu on Tuesday and following a further examination on Thursday it has been confirmed the youngster faces an extended period on the sidelines.
The news will come as a major blow to both club and country as Draxler has impressed since joining Wolfsburg from Schalke last summer, while he also featured in Germany’s recent friendly success against Italy.
The World Cup winner admits he is disappointed to be ruled out at such a crucial stage of the season, but he is hopeful of returning to action as soon as possible, as he aims to secure a place in Joachim Low’s final 23-man squad for the Euros.
He said: “I am disappointed and it’s a real shame that I can’t help the team right now in looking to achieve our goals for the season. I will now do everything within my power to get back into action again as quickly as possible.”
The reigning world champions will take on Ukraine, Poland and Northern Ireland in Group C of the finals and they are available at 1.36 to finish top of the group, while they are on offer at 1.02 to qualify for the knock-out stages.
