Deschamps full of praise for Kante

France boss Didier Deschamps was quick to praise midfielder N’Golo Kante as he moved closer to a starting role at Euro 2016 thanks to a strong performance in his side’s 3-0 friendly win over Scotland.

France, 3.75 to win Euro 2016, cruised to victory over Gordon Strachan’s men as they played their final game before they open the tournament on Friday against Romania.

Deschamps has a number of selection headaches ahead of the clash, with Kante fighting to start and impress following his sublime campaign for Leicester City. The 25-year-old was in superb form on Saturday night as he played 88 minutes for Deschamps just three months after coming into the international team.

Fellow holding midfielder Lassana Diarra withdrew from the squad due to a knee injury and Kante was hoping to compete for a starting berth. Speaking ahead of his side’s first game, Deschamps was delighted with Kante’s influence during the win at Stade Saint-Symphorien.

He told goal.com: “Everything looks simple and easy with [Kante]. And I know that it is not always easy, I have played sometimes at the same position. “Sometimes, it is difficult. But N’Golo Kante knows what he has to do and he does it well, very well, for the team.

“He can relaunch the game. I am happy for him. He is a discreet man, he is quiet but he is here. And he always smiles. He has arrived [in the squad] not long ago. “In March, he showed already many qualities. I am not anxious. He has a fluent game. Everything he does is fluent.”
