Butland set to miss European Championships
29/03/2016England goalkeeper Jack Butland looks set to miss Euro 2016 after fracturing his ankle during Saturday’s 3-2 win over Germany.
The Stoke star started the game in Berlin as he looked to impress manager Roy Hodgson after Joe Hart was forced to miss out due to injury.
However, Butland joined him on the sidelines in the first-half after picking up an injury in the 41st minute. He seemed in discomfort after collecting the ball and he was unable to recover in time to stop Toni Kroos’ opening goal.
Butland was visibly upset as he was stretchered away before being replaced by Southampton No.1 Fraser Forster.
Confirming the injury, he tweeted on Sunday night: “Today’s scan revealed I’ve fractured my ankle, absolutely devastated! I’ll be doing everything I can to get back fit as soon as I can!”
Reports suggest the 23-year-old will miss three months of action which would rule out his Euros chances, as England play their first game of the tournament on June 11.
He has returned home ahead of Tuesday game with the Netherlands and Hodgson has decided against naming a replacement, although Fraser Forster is now expected to start, Burnley keeper Tom Heaton could make his debut after being named as a substitute for Hart last week.
The Three Lions are priced at 1.67 to win on Tuesday, with the draw available at 3.60, while Holland are the outsiders at 5.00.
