Brady – We will not fear France
24/06/2016Republic of Ireland winger Robbie Brady insists his team are relishing the chance to take on France after they progressed to the knock-out stages of the European Championships.
The Norwich star produced another solid display and notched the winning goal as Martin O’Neill’s men won the game 1-0.
Ireland dominated the majority of the contest and they managed to secure the winner in the 85th minute when Wes Hoolahan’s cross was met by Brady who timed his header to perfection.
Speaking after the full-time whistle, the 24-year-old admitted it was a proud feeling to send his team through. “I can’t really explain the feeling,” he told reporters. “People who have scored these type of goals, they speak about it and say it’s like an out-of-body experience and I was lucky enough to experience that tonight.
“I’m stuck for words really, I don’t know what to say. My head’s still a bit all over the place, but I’m absolutely delighted with it.” Ireland’s reward is a clash against hosts and pre-tournament favourites France on Sunday but Brady insists his team-mates are not losing any sleep and are now full of confidence.
“I don’t think we’ve anything to fear this weekend. Roll on France,” he added. “We can go as far as we allow ourselves in this tournament.” France are 1.40 favourites to beat Ireland, with the draw priced at 3.80, while O’Neill’s men can be backed at odds of 9.50 with Dafabet to down Les Bleus in front of what will be vociferous home support.
