Bale talks up Wales unity
10/06/2016Wales international Gareth Bale feels there is a great unity throughout the squad and insists they are not a one-man team as they prepare to embark on their Euro 2016 campaign.
Chris Coleman’s men will kick off their tournament against Slovakia on Saturday before taking on England and Russia in Group B.
Wales, who are priced at 5.50 to win Group B, have not featured at a major tournament since the 1958 World Cup but will travel to France feeling optimistic of getting out of the group.
Bale and co enjoyed a hugely successful qualifying campaign as they finished second on Pool B just two points behind winners Belgium.
The Real Madrid man played a key role in ensuring they would be in the pot for Euro 2016 as he scored seven of Wales’ 11 goals. However, the former Tottenham forward insists they are not a one-man team and has praised the spirit and togetherness as they look to cause a few upsets.
Bale said: “It’s never a one-man team. There’s 11 men on the pitch for a start. “For us, it’s a squad thing. ‘Together Stronger’ [Wales’ motto] is there for a reason. We don’t just say it for no reason. “We all work hard as one unit. We attack as one, we defend as one. When we lose the ball, we all fight back together. “The Welsh side here now, we’re all like brothers. We’re friends, we joke around and play together but, when it comes down to serious business, we all fight for each other.”
“We have fun at the same time. We want to come here and enjoy it and, when you enjoy your football, you play your best.”
